What it is

A two-stage whole house filtration system built on full-size 10″ × 4.5″ “Big Blue” housings and assembled in San Diego by MyWaterClub. It installs on the main cold-water line where it enters the house, so every tap, shower, and appliance downstream runs on filtered water.

The Big Blue format is the reason to choose this over a slim 10″ × 2.5″ system: roughly three times the media volume per cartridge, which means longer service intervals and less pressure drop at household flow rates. The 1″ FNPT ports with brass threaded inserts take the strain of plumbing connections instead of bare plastic threads, and each cap carries a red pressure-release button so filter changes don’t turn into a fight with a stuck housing.

It ships with two complete filter sets — one pre-installed, one spare in the box — so your first replacement is already covered.

Filtration stages

Stage 1
Sediment — 5 micron

Melt-blown gradient-density polypropylene. Captures dirt, silt, sand, rust flakes, and scale particles before they reach your plumbing, water heater, appliances, or the carbon stage behind it. Cartridge: SED5-10BB

Stage 2
CTO carbon block — 10 micron

Activated carbon block. Helps reduce chlorine, chlorine taste and odor, and many common VOCs, while polishing out finer particles the sediment stage lets through. Cartridge: CTO-10BB

Flow direction runs Stage 1 → Stage 2. Check the IN/OUT markings on the caps before you plumb it in.

Key features

  • 1″ FNPT ports — sized for whole-house service lines, with minimal restriction compared to 3/4″ systems
  • Brass threaded inserts — metal threads take the torque instead of plastic, so the ports resist cracking and stripping during install
  • Pressure-release buttons — bleed off trapped pressure so housings unscrew easily at filter-change time
  • Heavy-duty Big Blue housings — accept any standard 10″ × 4.5″ cartridge, so you’re never locked into one media type
  • Pre-assembled on a steel mounting bracket — reversible for either flow direction; mounts to a wood stud with the supplied screws
  • Two full filter sets included — one installed, one spare, so your first change is already paid for
  • Wrench, nipples, screws and thread tape in the box — no extra trip for the small parts

Who it’s for

  • City water — chlorine, taste and odor reduction throughout the house
  • Homes with 1″ service lines or higher simultaneous demand — multiple bathrooms, larger households
  • Protecting plumbing and appliances — water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, fixtures
  • Pre-filtration ahead of an RO system — removing chlorine upstream extends RO membrane life
  • Anyone who wants longer intervals between filter changes than a slim 10″ × 2.5″ system gives

Installation

Before you start
  • Install on the cold main line after the house shut-off valve, in a dry, level, freeze-protected spot out of direct sunlight.
  • Fit shut-off valves on both sides — it turns future filter changes into a five-minute job. A bypass loop is even better.
  • Use 5–10 wraps of PTFE tape on threads, plus a thread sealant if you like. Do not over-wrap or over-torque — that’s what cracks caps.
  • Mount to a wood stud with the supplied screws; masonry or drywall needs anchors (not included).
  • For wall mounting with reversed flow, unbolt and flip the bracket — don’t invert the system.

After start-up, flush a nearby cold tap for 10–15 minutes. Grey or cloudy water at first is normal carbon dust and trapped air — it clears within a few days. Check for leaks again after 12 hours. We recommend a licensed plumber for the plumbing connections. Download the full manual (PDF) →

Filter replacement

Replace both cartridges every 6–12 months. On water with heavy sediment, shorten the sediment stage to 3–6 months. Sooner is always fine — a clogged sediment cartridge shows up as house-wide pressure loss.

Because it uses industry-standard 10″ × 4.5″ cartridges, you can retune the system later — swap in a pleated washable sediment cartridge for well water, or a catalytic carbon cartridge on chloraminated supplies.
