The 3-stage Big Blue refill with a premium coconut carbon block in the final stage — the stage that decides how your water actually tastes, upgraded without paying for coconut media in the workhorse stage.
This set refills the classic 3-stage Big Blue configuration and puts premium coconut-shell carbon where it counts most — the final polishing stage. Sediment catches the grit, standard granular carbon does the heavy chemical lifting on chlorine, taste and odor at full house flow, and the coconut carbon block gives the water its last pass before it reaches your taps.
Why upgrade only the last stage? Stage 2 works on volume — loose granular media moving a lot of water with minimal pressure loss. Stage 3 works on contact: denser media, slower passage, finer capture. That final contact is what people notice in a glass of water, which is why the block is where a coconut upgrade earns its keep.
Coconut-shell carbon has a finer micropore structure than coal-based carbon, so it adsorbs the small organic molecules behind taste and odor more effectively. The CACB-10BB block also carries a longer 6–12 month service life than a standard CTO.

Install in flow order. Sediment in the FIRST housing on the water inlet side, GAC second, coconut carbon block third. Out of order, the carbon stages clog with grit and die early.
Where this sits in the range. The standard SGC-10BB uses a CTO block in Stage 3. This set swaps that for a coconut block — finer micropores, better taste polishing, longer life. The premium SCGACCACB-10BB goes further and uses coconut in Stage 2 as well.
The sediment stage may need changing more often. On dirtier water the sediment cartridge (3–6 months) wears out before the carbons (6–12 months). If that’s your pattern, add a couple of single SED5-10BB cartridges to your order.
Chlorine, not chloramine. Carbon handles chlorine well; chloramine-treated water needs catalytic carbon (CAT-10BB) for effective reduction. Check your utility’s water report if you’re not sure which your city uses.
Flush on install. Run water to drain for a few minutes after a change — new carbon releases harmless fines at first, and the GAC especially so.
