An Omnipure K5654-BB inline water softening resin filter — reduces hardness minerals (calcium & magnesium) to help prevent scale buildup. USA-made, 2.5″ × 12″, 1/4″ FNPT threaded connections.
What it does
This Omnipure K5654-BB inline filter uses ion-exchange softening resin to reduce dissolved calcium and magnesium — the minerals that cause hard-water scale. By exchanging those hardness ions for sodium, it helps protect downstream equipment (RO membranes, faucets, appliances) from scale buildup and extends their service life.
Install it as an inline pre-treatment stage ahead of an RO system, ice maker, coffee machine, or any appliance where hard-water scale is a concern. The 2.5″ × 12″ body and 1/4″ FNPT threaded ports make it a drop-in fit for standard 1/4″ water lines. Made in the USA by Omnipure, a well-known name in inline filtration.

Good to know
- This is a non-regenerating disposable resin cartridge — replace it when capacity is exhausted (you’ll notice scale returning). It is not a whole-house water softener replacement for very hard water.
- Ion-exchange resin releases a small amount of sodium into the water. If you’re on a sodium-restricted diet, factor this in.
- No micron rating applies — softening resin works by ion exchange, not mechanical filtration.
- Best suited for moderate hardness. For very hard water (>15 gpg), a dedicated regenerating softener is more effective.

Installation notes
- Install before the RO membrane or appliance you want to protect from scale.
- Thread 1/4″ FNPT fittings securely — use Teflon tape for a leak-free seal.
- Flush the filter with water for 2–3 minutes before putting the system into service.
- Replace when you notice scale returning or flow drops significantly.
