What it does
This is the most capable carbon stage in the MyWaterClub line. It pairs premium catalytic carbon with KDF-85 redox media to reduce a broad range of contaminants — well beyond what standard GAC can handle.
The catalytic carbon reduces chlorine, chloramine, VOCs, industrial solvents, and hydrogen sulfide (the rotten-egg smell). The added KDF-85 works through redox reactions to reduce iron at low-to-moderate levels, heavy metals, and sulfur odor — while inhibiting bacterial growth inside the filter media.
Made with Centaur® catalytic activated carbon from Calgon Carbon — a premium media known for high catalytic activity, fast reaction kinetics, and long service life — blended with high-purity KDF-85. Use it as the Stage 2 upgrade in whole-house or under-sink RO systems. Standard 10″ × 2.5″ (9⅞″ × 2.5″) dimensions fit common housings.

Heavy metals reduced by KDF-85
Through redox reaction, KDF-85 can reduce up to 80–98% of these water-soluble heavy metals:

Good to know before you buy
Iron — light to moderate. The KDF-85 redox reaction gives significantly stronger iron reduction than catalytic carbon alone. Effective range is roughly ~1–3 ppm in a cartridge (non-backwashing) system, and it helps prevent iron fouling downstream. For iron above ~3 ppm, use a dedicated backwashing iron system.
Hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg smell). Stronger and more stable H₂S reduction than CAT-10, with longer media life. For high sulfur, a backwashing system or aeration is recommended.
Manganese. Effective for low manganese only, approximately 0.1–1.0 ppm (mg/L).
Pharmaceuticals & pesticides. Catalytic carbon helps reduce pesticides, herbicides, PFAS, and pharmaceuticals with improved performance over standard GAC.
Quick selection guide
|
Choose CATKDF85-10 (this filter) if…
You have iron ~1–3 ppm, stronger sulfur odor, low manganese, heavy metals, or want the broadest chemical + PFAS coverage (well water especially).
|
Step down to CAT-10 if…
You’re on city water with chloramine or mild sulfur odor and only trace iron (<0.3 ppm) — save with CAT-10.
