What it does

The CTO (Chlorine–Taste–Odor) carbon block is a final-stage polishing filter. Its dense extruded carbon reduces chlorine, chloramine, and VOCs, and cleans up any lingering taste and odor so the water leaving your system is crisp and finished.

Because it’s a compressed block rather than loose granular carbon, water contacts more carbon surface with fewer channels — giving consistent reduction and a small amount of particulate filtration at 10 micron. It’s the standard, cost-effective choice for the last stage of a 3-stage whole-house or under-sink RO setup.

Built to standard 10″ × 2.5″ (9⅞″ × 2.5″) dimensions, it drops into common standard-size housings. For a premium, cleaner-tasting finish, the coconut-shell CBCO-10-5 block is the step-up option.

Cartridge Type Best for
Stage 1 — Sediment
SED5 Standard sediment 5µm Municipal / low–moderate sediment
SED5-PLT Pleated sediment Well water / high sediment · longer life
Stage 2 — Carbon
GAC-10 GAC carbon Chlorine taste & odor (no iron/sulfur)
CAT-10 Catalytic carbon Chloramine, VOCs, mild H₂S, trace iron (~0.3 ppm)
CATKDF85-10 Catalytic + KDF-85 Iron & H₂S (light–moderate, ~1–3 ppm), broad chemical
Stage 3 — Carbon block / polishing
CTO-10 (this filter) Standard CTO block Final polishing · chlorine, taste, odor
CBCO-10-5 Coconut carbon block Premium taste · higher adsorption, cleaner finish

Good to know before you buy

This is a polishing stage, not a pre-filter. Put sediment and any specialty media (iron, KDF) before it. The CTO block does its best work cleaning up taste and odor at the end of the line.

Not for iron or rotten-egg smell. If you’re fighting iron or H₂S, use the CATKDF85-10 as your carbon stage instead of relying on the block.

Want the best-tasting water? Step up to the coconut-shell CBCO-10-5 — higher adsorption efficiency, cleaner taste, and lower ash content than a standard block.
