What it does
This cartridge is filled with food-grade polyphosphate media that reduces limescale and corrosion by sequestration — it binds the calcium, magnesium, and iron in hard water so those minerals stay dissolved and can’t deposit as scale on pipes, heating elements, and fixtures.
Importantly, this is a scale inhibitor, not a softener. The minerals aren’t removed, so your water’s hardness reading and taste are essentially unchanged — but the scale-forming behavior is neutralized. That makes it a low-maintenance way to protect water heaters, boilers, tankless units, coffee makers, and plumbing from buildup.
A trace, food-grade dose of polyphosphate is released into the water as it passes through — the same approach used in commercial equipment protection. It fits standard 10″ × 2.5″ (9⅞″ × 2.5″) housings and works best as a final stage, after your carbon block or CTO filter.

Good to know before you buy
Inhibitor, not a softener. Polyphosphate keeps hardness minerals suspended so they can’t form scale — it does not remove them, so your hardness test won’t change. If you want minerals actually removed, use the IRON10 softening resin instead.
Put it last, and use cold water. Install after your carbon stage so it’s the final cartridge, and feed it cold water only — hot water breaks down polyphosphate and shortens its effect. It’s ideal ahead of a water heater or tankless unit.
Best for low-to-moderate hardness. On very hard water the media depletes faster — expect the shorter end of the 3–6 month range, and replace once you notice scale returning.

Choose this if…
You want to protect a water heater, boiler, or appliances from scale and corrosion without changing your water’s taste or minerals.
|
Consider instead…
The IRON10 softening resin if you also want iron reduction and actual softening.
|
|
Not for…
Removing hardness for softness you can feel, or treating heavy iron — see IRON10 or a full softener.
