Description
A washable, reusable Big Blue sediment pre-filter: high-surface-area pleated design that holds far more dirt than a standard cartridge — rinse it clean and reinstall instead of replacing.
What it does
The SED5-PLT-10BB is a pleated sediment pre-filter for standard 10″ × 4.5″ Big Blue housings. Its food-grade polyester fabric is folded into dozens of pleats, giving it several times the filtration surface of a smooth-walled cartridge — and that surface area is what lets it capture large amounts of dirt, silt, sand, and rust without choking your water pressure.
The headline difference: it’s washable and reusable. When flow starts to drop, you don’t throw it away — pull the cartridge, rinse the pleats clean with a hose or under a tap, and reinstall. On sediment-heavy water, where a disposable cartridge might clog in weeks, one pleated cartridge can serve through many rinse cycles. Replace it only when the fabric is damaged or flow stays restricted after rinsing.
Like every sediment stage, it runs first in line, protecting downstream carbon cartridges, plumbing fixtures, and appliances from particulate — and on high-sediment well water, it’s the pre-filter that saves the most money over time.

Good to know before you buy
Pleated vs. melt-blown — pick by your sediment load. Pleated captures particles on its surface, which is why it rinses clean and thrives on heavy, visible sediment (well water, older pipes). Melt-blown (SED5-10BB) traps particles through its depth — a better fit for municipal water with lighter, finer sediment, at the lowest cost per cartridge.
How to rinse. Shut off water, relieve housing pressure, remove the cartridge, and rinse the pleats outside-in with a hose or tap until the runoff is clear. A soft brush helps on stubborn buildup. Reinstall and you’re done — no tools beyond the housing wrench.
When to actually replace it. Reusable isn’t forever: replace when the fabric is torn or deformed, or when flow stays restricted even after a thorough rinse.
